The 19th were raised raised in 1858 as the "1st Bengal Light Cavalry", they became Light Dragoons in 1861 and were changed to Hussars in 1862. In 1885 they were known as the "The 19th (Prince of Wales Own) Hussars". A further two changes were made, In 1902 they became the "19th Alexandra Princess of Wales Hussars" and in 1908 they became the "19th (Queen Alexandra's Own Royal) Hussars."
